Satellite Programme 7.
11 February - 18 May 2014

Curator: Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez

Nika Autor (1982, Maribor, Slovenia, lives and works in Ljubljana) is interested in the production of images (including montage, inspired by leftist agitprop films, short experimental documentaries, and newsreel formats), their status, and the direct and indirect power that they exert upon their surroundings and history. In her previous works, she critically deconstructed the dominant discourse of the asylum and migration policy, lucidly pointing to the principles of exclusion and the disciplining practices that regulate the social situation of asylum-seekers. Both subjectivity and identity are constructed therein. Nika used to be an ambassador of the Workers-Punks’University in Ljubljana, an alternative educational project aimed at a rereading of Marxist thought in the light of contemporary political theory. In her most recent film-essay she has focused on the revision of history, in Slovenia in particular, attempting to formulate questions concerning the economical, political, and social shifts that led to the atrocities committed in the former Yugoslavia during the last war. For this project, she involved activists and philosophers, who provided live commentaries to accompany her film-essay, commenting on the way it was made.
