"Montagem S – 3"

09.02.08 _ 10.04.08

Galeria Leme is proud to present at the Project Room Brazilian artist Elaine Tedesco with the solo exhibition Montagem S – 3.
The poetic of Elaine Tedesco’s work starts with the observation of certain aspects of urban life. The artist reflects about themes that concern the contemporary experience, such as insomnia, isolation, vigilance and decadence and realizes installations, photographs and videos. “Guaritas”, one of her most known series of works, was selected by curator Rober Storr to be presented at 52nd Venice Biennale.
Since 2001, Elaine Tedesco has been developing performances with objects such as ladders, beds and cabins. She installs them in secluded locations, photographs them and then projects them through slides onto urban buildings. These projections on façades transform the images as well as the buildings temporarily. Elaine Tedesco also photographs these projections, creating a new work of art.
For Montagem S – 3, Elaine has developed a spherical sculpture made of hundreds of meters of rope, from which the artist will create works of photography and video, and a sentry box, which functions as space/device to project the image of a ladder on the bank of a pond onto Galeria Leme’s façade. This project suggests a counterpoint between public and private, shelter and vigilance, as well as the process of creation and documentation and it is the beginning of a new series of works.
During the days that precede the exhibition’s opening, Elaine Tedesco will be working on these objects, photographs and videos. The sentry box will be installed at the street in front of the Project Room and slides of the image of the ladder will be projected onto Galeria Leme’s façade on the 3rd of September.
