29 September 2014 - 29 March 2015

In The Fall – Transition into the better Sachi Miyachi aims to explore how human creativity is deployed in times of crisis, natural disasters and human error as a means to create new forms of energy. In Het Oog, she wants to create a space for regular performances which refer to a variety of festivals in the world that seek a state of purity by driving negative spirits away, like Holi, the Hindu spring festival of colours.
Sachi Miyachi is the winner of the second edition of the Theodora Niemeijer prize, an award for emerging female artists living / working in the Benelux.
The prize is awarded once every two years to an artist who submits the best project proposal for Het Oog (The Eye), an oval shaped patio area in the Van Abbemuseum. The Theodora Niemeijer prize is the only Dutch prize for visual arts specifically for female artists. The prize was introduced in 2012 by Stichting Niemeijer Fonds and the Van Abbemuseum because female artists are still in the minority in exhibitions and museum collections. The first winner in 2012 was Sarah van Sonsbeeck with the project Informational Weather.
