Esther Kläs: Palomar

20 Mar - 17 May 2014

Esther Kläs, "Untitled (oder: oh je)", 2014
Peter Blum is pleased to announce the exhibition Esther Kläs: Palomar, which opens on March 20th at 20 West 57th Street, New York. This will be the artist’s second solo exhibition with the gallery. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, March 20th, from 6 – 8 pm.

In Palomar, Esther Kläs continues to examine the dynamic between materiality and presence in sculpture. These latest works are rounded forms or rings that are placed directly on the gallery floor. A function of the sculptures is to delineate immaterial space. This space (inside, outside, above) becomes an arena in which questions of absence and presence—monumentality and spirituality arise.

Esther Kläs was born in 1981 in Mainz, Germany. She graduated from the Art Academy of Düsseldorf and received an MFA from Hunter College. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Recent exhibitions include Esther Kläs: Better Energy, MoMA PS1, curated by Peter Eleey, New York, 2012; Corpo Naturale, SpazioA Gallery, Pistoia, Italy, 2012; Configurations, MetroTech Center Commons, Public Art Fund, Brooklyn, NY, curated by Andria Hickey, 2012; KölnSkulptur 7, Siftung Skulpturenpark Köln, Germany, curated by Friedrich Meschede, 2013.
