BARRY JOHNSTON
Upside Down Libation 2: Mosquito Communion
11 September - 24 October 2015

We began as a flyer
(didn’t know what for)
cut out letters in different type faces
taped into an order
little slips of paper
pressed to Xerox machine glass
and bathed in lines of light
To become black and white!
To become black and white!
To go through the sharpening of our edges
and feel our negative spaces
as one shape
growing smoother
with each particle of dust set permanently
into the constellation burned upon us
scorpion of suns we are born under
In unlocked offices
priceless stacks concealed inside rain coats
are moonwalked out with
(carried by who?)
(by wind at times)
up through muddy streets filled with shouting
to be stuck to the trees
or passed between palms
leaves
folded
and unfolded
we gain our veins

Upside Down Libation 2: Mosquito Communion is the latest installment of Barry Johnston’s ongoing project, Final Party (working title), an expanded publication bringing together elements of sculpture, poetry, works on paper, radio addresses,
propaganda by the deed, and live entertainment.

Johnston lives and works in Los Angeles.

“The party cannot be a real party if it limits itself to
registering what the masses feel and think...”
