NEW ACQUISITIONS FROM AI WEIWEI TO ZOBERNIG

For the first time in the 17-year history of the institution, Kunsthaus Bregenz is presenting a small but outstanding selection of works from its collection of contemporary art. The focus will be on exhibits from the period after 2009 when Yilmaz Dziewior took up his position as the current director. Under his directorship, and in close consultation with artists exhibiting at the institution, Kunsthaus Bregenz began acquiring works from the exhibitions. The majority of these works were donated to the collection by the artists. The current Showcase exhibition thus holds up a mirror to previous activities. Rather than providing a representative overview of contemporary art, it intends to be more a presentation of the institution’s own cultural memory. In this sense the collection deepens and permanently augments the KUB temporary exhibitions.
In addition to donated works, many exhibits by young Austrian cultural producers have been acquired with aid from the galleries support fund of the Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture.
While the presentation deliberately avoids any claim to completeness, its videos and works on paper, paintings and photographs, sculptures and installations present a broad cross-section of contemporary artistic media.
Following the successful presentation of architectural models by Peter Zumthor at the KUB Collection Showcase (2012 — 2014), this is the second Kunsthaus Bregenz project to take place in the neighboring post office building.
